Treatment 1

Treatment 1(First two minutes)

  • The title of our film 'The Truth Never Dies', we chose this because our main character tries to deny the truth about what she's done.
  • The length of the film is one minute fifty seconds.
  • The target audience of our film is males and females aged 15 and over. It will be aimed at people who are interested in the psychological thriller genre. However it will also attract more females as our main protagonist is a woman and statistically women are more interested with our genre, psychological thrillers, as it focuses on the mind.
  • The certificate of the film is 15 due to the violent theme throughout. Also, it includes blood in one of the scenes which could be disturbing to some younger viewers.
  • We chose Warp Films to distribute our film because it is located in Sheffield therefore it is local to us and it distributes independent films with original and controversial storylines. We also researched Twisted Pictures as it produces horror films but we didn't think we would have a chance to work with a mainstream production company.
  • Our film starts off in a therapy session with our main character, Lucy and her therapist. They are discussing her current family situation and what happened, Lucy states that she can't remember what happened but we included flashbacks so the audience are informed on what actually happened;
  1.  The first flashback shows Lucy crying on the stairs as her parents are arguing aggressively.
  2. The second flashback shows Lucy searching through the cutlery draw trying to find a knife, she then approaches the door in a panic with the knife, implying something bad is going to happen.
  3. The final flashback is Lucy standing over a male body, suggesting to the audience that she has murdered her father.
It then cuts to Lucy in college walking to the toilet clearly distressed, this is shown through the voices that can be heard, implying she has become mentally unstable.
  • We used a number of elements to make our film stand out, for example we used filters in our flashbacks so it was clear to tell there were flashbacks but also gave them an eerie effect.
  1. When Lucy was walking towards the door we used slow motion effect to build suspense. Over the top of  this we used a heartbeat and heavy breathing sound effects to convey that she was in a panicked state.
  2. We also used jump cuts to disorientate the audience and to make it more sinister which reflects Lucy's anger.
  3. Finally we used another sound effect of voices as this emphasises Lucy's psychological state of mind.
