Photo Storyboard
We began with a medium shot in order to establish the scene and the characters. The clinical background proves this is a therapy session. We use 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot to show a conversation between the two characters. We used quiet sinister music to build up tension and to demonstrate the genre.

We used a fade to black to signify this was a flashback, it was a long shot of Lucy on the stairs crying, rocking backwards and forwards with her head in her hands. There is a non-digetic sound of her parents arguing followed by a female scream. A fade out to white is used and we are back in the therapy session.

We are in the therapy session and an over the shoulder shot is used of Sophia to demonstrate she is still asking a lot of questions. We then use a point of view shot of Lucy messing with her hands, this shows she is nervous and anxious about the event.
A second flashback is shown, Lucy is frantically searching for a knife. We used faced paced editing to connote that Lucy was in a frantic, worried state and wasn't thinking properly. Non- diegetic sound of a heart beat and heavy breathing is used, this amplifies Lucy's mental state which is the psychological element of the film.

We return to the therapy session and Lucy begins to cry because she can't cope with the questions, we fade to black into the final flashback.
The final flashback makes the storyline become clear as it shows Lucy's father laid dead on the floor, we know Lucy was the one who killed him from her holding the knife with blood on. We used jump cuts and put an effect on this section in order to disorientate the viewer and imply it was a blur for Lucy. We used sinister music as a jump scare as it came in unexpectedly.
We then show the title of the film, it is in red to connote blood and anger. We chose this because Lucy tries to forget the truth. We also thought it was catchy so people would remember it.
The final section of our film is Lucy walking to the toilet, this shows that she is a student at school. We hear voices which emphasises that she is mentally unstable. The film ends with Lucy sat crying on the floor which further amplifies this idea.

Evaluation Question 2
In our film we
used the stereotype of a female therapist, we did this by dressing her in
stereotypical clothing of a blouse and jeans. This implied that she was an
older character and was professional at her job. We filmed her mainly through
mid-close ups and two shots, this was to convey her in her work environment.
We represented young people through Lucy our
main character, we portrayed Lucy to be struggling after recent happening at
home. Lucy was shot mainly centre frame and she had the most screen prevalence
which throughout the film indicated that she was the main character. She was
dressed in casual clothes which further indicated that she was a normal teenage
girl but struggling with a personal problem. This is similar to The Ring as the
main character is a young girl.
Both of Lucy’s parents were presented differently in the film. Her mother though she
was never seen was a stereotypical mother, whereas her father subverted the
stereotypical father role as he wasn’t interested his
children and was a heavy drinker. When David, Lucy’s father, is shown it is through a series of jump cuts after Lucy has
stabbed him. The audience does hear
David shouting at Lucy’s mum when Lucy is on the stairs,
this implies that something has happened and leaves the audience in suspense.
Evaluation Question 3
I researched into
Warp Films for a possible distributor for our film. I chose to research warp as
they are a small independent UK film producer. They produce and distribute
films of unusual plot lines and small budgets. This is ideal for our film as it
was made on a small budget and wouldn’t be an ideal plot line that any of the
big six conglomerates would like. Warp Films are a company which produce films
with unknown cast members and they specialise in thrillers.
One film that is similar to ours is a film they produced
called ’71 (In 1971, a young and
disorientated British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a
riot on the deadly streets of Belfast.), it is an action, drama, thriller. This
is similar to ours as our film is primarily a thriller, but it also has drama
aspects. In the film, he desperately tries to find his way back to safety,
similar to in our film as Lucy is in therapy to try find some comfort from what
happened.
Dead Man’s Shoes is
another film which is similar to ours. It is a crime, drama, thriller, this
embodies the three main themes that run through our film. As our film is a
thriller, drama it runs along the main themes with this film. In this film, a
man is trying to take revenge on a gang of drug dealers for harming his
brother, similar to our film, as Lucy take revenge on her father for him
killing her mother.
Another film production company that could produce our film
is Twisted Pictures. They have produced films like the Saw series. They would
be good for our film as they are a small independent film company and we have a
small budget film, also they mainly produce thrillers and horror films.
In the end we decided to go with Warp picture as they
specialise in independent films and would provide us with production and distribution.
They are good for our film as it is a
small production budget and unusual plot line.
